There’s something about old oak trees draped in Spanish moss that always had my heart, and at Coleman Landing in Shady Oaks Recreation Area, that love feels fully realized. The moment you arrive, it’s like stepping into a dream—towering oaks stretching overhead, moss swaying gently in the breeze, and Lake Kissimmee shimmering quietly in the background.

This hidden gem embodies the very essence of Florida’s natural beauty and tranquility with a sense of timeless calm. Coleman Landing offers the kind of outdoor escape where mornings begin softly, evenings linger, and the world feels just far enough away to unplug. The place softens your thoughts and invites you to slow down, breathe deeper, and stay a little longer than planned.

The campground is as peaceful as it is welcoming, offering a serene setting that feels designed for true relaxation. The spacious campsites comfortably accommodate both RVs and tents, with electric and water hookups that provide modern conveniences without detracting from the rustic charm. A well-maintained bathhouse adds to the comfort, which is a big plus after a day of exploring.

East of Lake Wales, this unique campground is a perfect escape for those craving the outdoors with a relaxed, unhurried vibe. Visitors often praise the peaceful atmosphere, noting the absence of road noise and the way nature’s sounds replace the usual hum of everyday life. Add in the friendly, welcoming community of fellow campers, and it’s easy to see why people love staying here.

Next to Lake Kissimmee, the campground is an ideal base for fishing and boating, with convenient boat ramps for airboats, traditional boats, canoes, and kayaks—making it easy to get out on the water and explore the lake at your own pace.

Friendly management and staff help create a welcoming atmosphere that makes Coleman Landing feel like a true Old Florida retreat. Guests can enjoy a peaceful picnic area ideal for family gatherings, birdwatching, or simply sitting back and taking in the natural surroundings. The area is rich with wildlife and scenic beauty, adding to the campground’s quiet charm. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend getaway or settling in for a longer stay, Coleman Landing offers a relaxed environment with plenty of opportunities to unwind and reconnect with nature.

The campground is also pet-friendly, allowing dogs to join in on the outdoor adventure. With its blend of natural beauty, thoughtful amenities, and tranquil setting, Coleman Landing promises a memorable and restorative escape.

Unfortunately, my sense of peace was quickly disrupted by the camper across from me. Within five minutes of parking, he walked directly into my campsite asking for things, and the strange behavior didn’t stop there. Throughout the day he wandered around yelling and rapping to himself, repeatedly unsettling my dog and scaring off any wildlife – especially the birds that tried to land nearby. I came here to unwind and immerse myself in nature, but his unpredictable behavior left me feeling uneasy and hesitant to leave my van to explore. I guess every place can’t be perfect.

Whether you’re camping beneath the oaks, casting a line on the lake, or simply slowing down to soak in the scenery, Coleman Landing at Shady Oaks offers a peaceful escape surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor exploring. It’s the perfect place to unwind, explore, and discover your next favorite adventure.
